Brief History of the Department 

The Department of Computer Science at Indraprastha College for Women was established in 1997, evolving from Computer Applications courses introduced in the early 1990s to meet the growing demand for computing education. Over the years, the department has developed into a key academic unit, offering B.Sc. (Hons.) Computer Science and NEP-aligned interdisciplinary courses, with a focus on strong fundamentals, computational thinking, and technology-driven learning.

Important Milestones

  • 1990s–1997 – Introduction of Computer Applications at the programme level, followed by the establishment of the Department of Computer Science in 1997, responding to emerging technological and academic demands. 
  • 2000s – Gradual expansion into a full-fledged discipline, supported by development of computer laboratories and ICT-enabled teaching infrastructure, strengthening practical and digital learning. 
  • 2013–2017 – Launch of AICTE-approved B.Tech (Computer Science) at Indraprastha College for Women, enhancing technical education, institutional visibility, and industry alignment. 
  • 2020 onwards – Implementation of NEP 2020-based curriculum, introducing multidisciplinary pathways, skill-based courses (GE/SEC/VAC), and strengthening computational thinking and problem-solving competencies. 
  • Present – The department offers B.Sc. (Hons.) Computer Science and interdisciplinary programmes, with a strong focus on innovation, research orientation, and women’s empowerment through technology education.
