Vision

Chair: Prof. Poonam Kumria

Coordinator: Dr. Roopali Goyanka

The importance of a comprehensive understanding of the human condition and our location within it cannot be underestimated in higher education. The interrelatedness of academic disciplines and the ways in which they impact on each other serve to enhance and deepen not only our understanding of diverse disciplines, but also promote a holistic assessment of realities surrounding us. At the same time, the methodologies of specific disciplines are understood along with their respective objects of study.

Mission

The Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies established in 2016, to instill academic curiosity among students, to encourage them to understand social phenomena and engage with them in an analytical and critical manner by organising workshops, talks, lectures, courses, and seminars throughout the year. The Centre encourages the students to undertake interdisciplinary research activities and projects. The Centre provides a forum where young scholars from various institutions may be invited on a regular basis to present their work-in progress, to stimulate the minds of the students and enable a lively dialogue with their peers. It organizes seminars, talks and podcasts not only by scholars but also by students.

The inaugural events of the Centre were a seminar series 'Dilli: Perspectives on Delhi' and an outreach research project 'HUM SAB' with migrant labour on College campus.

The Centre has also launched a podcast series titled “Briefcast” in December 2022, by the students, for the students; to provide a platform for peer-to-peer learning by inviting young achievers for a conversation and motivating the other students to come forward and undertake innovative activities as envisaged in the spirit of the New Education Policy 2020.

A lecture series on Public health in January -February 2022 and a 30-hour certificate course on Music Therapy Awareness are some of the recent activities that have been undertaken at the Centre with a view to imparting interdisciplinary knowledge to students.
